Milwaukee Road Depot
Milwaukee Road Depot
The redevelopment of the Milwaukee Road Depot was part of a 35-year quest by the city of Minneapolis to revitalize the riverfront. Shea partnered with CSM Corporation to create and implement a vision for a complex that would appeal to diverse audiences and reposition this area of Minneapolis.
Shea and CSM developed a strategic plan for the site that combined the Depot's historic appeal with modern amenities to position it as a unique Minneapolis destination. The development plan included redesigning the space to house a banquet center, hotels, restaurants and other offerings. In 2001, the plan became a reality as the newly developed Depot opened for business.
The original train shed was converted to an indoor ice skating facility and a covered outdoor event space. Two brand new hotels were also added. In addition to architecture / interior design and historic renovation expertise, Shea pulled from its marketing communications expertise to announce the Depot plans and generate excitement through a public relations campaign.
